Student measurements

Description

33 groups of students from Arba Minch University (Bachelor studies Meteorology & Hydrology, year 2, and Water Supply & Environmental Engineering, year 4) have conducted a small air pollution measurement research. Some of the research topics include:

  • CO2 concentration inside and outside a student dormitory;
  • CO2 concentration in a classroom or a dormitory;
  • CO2 concentration at the bus station;
  • CO concentration during cooking on biomass fuels inside or outside a restaurant’s kitchen;
  • PM2.5 concentrations close to a generator;
  • PM2.5 or CO concentration close to coffee ceremony related charcoal burning;
  • CO concentration close to open air waste burning locations;
  • CO concentrations close to wood, charcoal or waste burning locations;
  • CO concentrations in two kitchens, one using mainly wood, another also using electricity.

Each of the student groups get a measurement instrument for a full day, to conduct their measurements at a suitable time.

Measurements are conducted between November 13, 2019 and December 9, 2019. Based on the measurements, the students have produced a measurement report.

Measurements inside a room with coffee ceremony
Measurements close to waste burning
